Used Car Market Hits Record and Opens Opportunities for the Auto Parts Industry

The Brazilian used car market reached its highest sales volume in history in 2024, driven by rising new vehicle prices, high interest rates, and credit restrictions. According to the National Federation of Motor Vehicle Dealers Associations (Fenauto), 15.77 million units were sold throughout the year — a milestone that not only highlights the resilience of the sector but also has a direct impact on the entire automotive supply chain, including the auto parts industry.

High prices, restricted credit, and a growing market

While in 2017 the average price of a new car was around R$ 72,000, by 2024 it exceeded R$ 150,000. The price increase reduced the attractiveness of zero-kilometer vehicle financing. As a result, consumers shifted to nearly-new and used cars, where they find better cost-benefit ratios and lower depreciation.

For the auto parts industry, this change in preference represents a positive scenario: the older the fleet, the higher the demand for parts for maintenance, repair, and customization. From mechanical components to accessories, the longer lifecycle of these vehicles ensures a steady consumption flow in the segment.

Changes in buyer profile and new niches

Fenauto's survey shows that in 2024, more than 5.7 million vehicles over 13 years old were sold, in addition to another 3.98 million aged between 4 and 8 years. This means that a large portion of the fleet in circulation is out of warranty, forcing owners to turn to the replacement market.

Additionally, consumer behavior has changed. During the pandemic, many purchased used vehicles to work with ride-hailing or delivery apps, increasing intensive use and, consequently, part wear. This trend opens opportunities for manufacturers, distributors, and integration platforms like Alephee, which connects brands and dealers to optimize parts availability and pricing in real time.

Outlook for the near future

If economic conditions remain stable, the used car market could exceed 17 million units sold in 2025. This would not only set another historic record but also give new momentum to the auto parts supply chain, which will continue benefiting from an increasingly large fleet with higher maintenance needs.

In a scenario where new car sales face cost and financing limitations, the auto parts industry consolidates as one of the pillars of growth and competitiveness in the Brazilian automotive sector.
