Three models will cease production in Argentina during 2025

The Argentine automotive industry is preparing for major changes in its local production. Throughout 2025, three models will cease to be manufactured in the country: the Volkswagen Taos, the Nissan Frontier, and the Renault Alaskan.

Currently, domestic production represents 44% of the market, while imports account for 56%. These figures may change due to automakers' decisions, which respond to both the evolution of domestic demand and the needs of foreign markets.

Models and replacements

The Volkswagen Taos and the Nissan Frontier will continue to be sold in Argentina, but as imported models. In the case of the Taos, it will come from Mexico starting at the end of this year, while the Frontier will be imported beginning in 2026.

The situation is different for the Renault Alaskan, which will cease production without an immediate replacement. The brand plans to introduce a new compact pickup — known for now as the Concept Niagara — in the second half of 2026.

New additions to local production

In contrast to the discontinuations, the Fiat plant in Ferreyra, Córdoba, began producing the one-ton pickup Titano this year. This model will soon be distributed through the dealership network, strengthening the supply of domestically produced utility vehicles.

With these changes, the sector will need to adjust the balance between local production and imports, in a scenario where competitiveness and product diversification will be key to maintaining sales volume.
