The automotive sector closed the first half of 2025 with historic numbers. According to data from the Association of Automobile Dealers of the Argentine Republic (https://www.acara.org.ar), between January and June, 326,039 new vehicles were registered, marking the best performance for this period since 2018.

In June, 52,212 units were registered, representing a 68.9% increase compared to the same month last year, although with a slight 7.3% decline compared to May. In the accumulated half-year, the growth reached 77.8% versus 2024, consolidating a strong expansion scenario for the industry.

Factors driving the growth

The recovery is due to a greater availability of models, resulting from the normalization of imports and the expansion of offerings by automakers. Competition among brands intensified, leading to more competitive prices and a wider range of options for consumers.

Another key factor was financing: about 50% of purchases were made through credit, driven by 0% interest rate plans and favorable terms offered by several manufacturers. The reduction of specific taxes and price stability during part of the period also played an important role.

Domestic production and imports

In the first six months of the year, 43% of the vehicles sold were domestically produced. Models imported from Brazil accounted for 48%, reflecting an increase in participation compared to 2024, when vehicles from that country represented 33% of the market.

Leading brands and models

Volkswagen and Toyota shared the leadership with 52,825 and 52,677 units, respectively, each holding a 17.1% market share. They were followed by Fiat (42,707 units, 13.8%), Renault (31,520, 10.2%) and Peugeot (28,899, 9.4%).

Among the models, the Peugeot 208 topped the ranking with 18,548 registrations, closely followed by the Fiat Cronos (18,516). Completing the top positions were the Toyota Hilux (17,142), Toyota Yaris (15,529) and Ford Ranger (13,797).

Outlook

The ACARA highlighted that the projection for the end of the year remains around 650,000 units, with the challenge of maintaining the sales pace during the second half.
